The Boy in the Junkyard
Every Saturday morning, I would take my saved change to the nearby secondhand market. The air was thick with the smell of solder and dust. Underneath the stalls piled high with discarded motherboards and old hard drives, I found my treasure.
My first “NAS” was a 2GB Quantum Bigfoot drive held together by duct tape, humming and clicking like a time machine. I had no idea I was building a time capsule for my MP3s of my favorite Beyond songs.
The Discovery of Digital Miracles
While organizing my storage, I pulled out a box of my own old, dusty hard drives. I wasn’t even sure if they would still spin. But as I connected them and the platters began to hum, a miracle happened.
Inside a long-forgotten folder, I found my precious digital treasures: Photos of my grandfather smiling in his workshop; my childhood home before it was demolished; and me at twelve years old, clutching that Frankenstein-like NAS. Tears fell onto the keyboard.
